Mā te reo Kotahitanga
With One United Voice

In times when the weight of poverty casts a shadow over the lives of so many, it is by speaking and acting as one that the transformation of individual lives can begin and, eventually, become reality. At Visionwest Waka Whakakitenga, we know that every story of hardship deserves compassion, every struggle deserves support, and every person deserves a chance to live with dignity and hope. This year’s Annual Report, Mā te reo Kotahitanga; With One United Voice, highlights the collective strength that emerges when communities, kaimahi (staff), supporters come together to walk alongside those in need.
Through our wraparound services, we witness the remarkable resilience of individuals and families experiencing profound challenges and their courage as they face them head-on. Our team of social workers, youth mentors, counsellors, financial mentors, housing advocates, support workers and community volunteers, stands alongside whānau navigating the complexities of poverty, homelessness, food insecurity, and unemployment. We recognise that the path out of hardship is rarely straightforward and requires a coordinated effort and a personalised approach that responds to each unique journey and circumstance.
And so, we are inspired by the courage of those who walk through our doors, seeking security, stability, and hope. We see a mother’s determination to place daily food on the table to feed her children, the perseverance of a father seeking to provide a secure home for his whānau, the commitment of a young person to gain the education and training that will transform their life; we are in awe of the courage of all those who seek to break the cycle of poverty that has been a part of their life; and we see the power that is generated when a community commits to supporting whānau in crisis and recognise that, even in the darkest of times, hope persists, guiding people toward a brighter future.
Mā te reo Kotahitanga; With One United Voice, celebrates the unified spirit that defines our mission. It is a testament to everyone – client whānau, kaimahi, supporters and funders, and partnering organisations – with whom we unite to support those who need it most. Together, we are building a future grounded in hope, justice, and the belief that everyone deserves a life of possibility and promise.
